Liam Alcalde was born in Montreal but spent most of his childhood growing up south of the border in Kansas, USA. At the age of 10, while still in Kansas, Alcalde learned how to skate.  When he was 11 his family returned to Montreal which meant Liam finally got the chance to do what he wanted to do but didn’t have the chance to in Kansas, which was play organized hockey.

The fact that he only started playing organized hockey when he was 11-years-old speaks to his athletic ability. Alcalde’s AAA Midget results put him on the radar of Halifax scouts. He finished fourth in league scoring with 45 PTS (25G, 20A) and his OHA Gold Mavericks won their league championship in Cornwall, Ontario. Alcalde was selected in the 6th Round of the 2012 QMJHL Draft by GM Cam Russell because of the Montreal native’s rugged and truculent style of play.

At his first Mooseheads training camp in 2012 the then 17-year-old battled hard and earned a spot on the Herd. He played in 44 games last season while scoring 2 goals and recorded 24 penalty minutes on what became the best team in the CHL. Back for his second season in Halifax, Alcalde continues to be a spark plug when inserted in the lineup because of his willingness to stick up for his teammates.
