| Moose win in Shootout By Brian Freeman - Sports Reporter The Chronicle Herald http://thechronicleherald.ca/Sports/1164653.html
The Halifax Mooseheads claimed an emotional 6-5 shootout victory over the Lewiston Maineiacs on Wednesday night in their desperate bid to stay in the hunt for a QMJHL playoff berth.
At Lewiston, the Mooseheads battled back from a 3-1 deficit by scoring the last two goals of the second period and the first two of the third, only to watch the Maineiacs rally and tie the score with only two seconds remaining in the game.
But Tomas Knotek and Gerrad Grant both got the better of Maineiacs netminder Adrien Lemay in the shootout while Halifax goalie Peter Delmas stoned Lewiston shooters Jess Tanguy and Matthew Bissonnette to preserve the win.
Garrett Clarke had a goal and two assists in regulation time to pace the Mooseheads, who snapped a three-game skid that included 2-1 losses in their previous two starts.
Travis Randell, Carl Gelinas, Grant and Jessyko Bernard each scored once and added a helper.
Tanguy, Michael Chaput, Pierre-Olivier Morin, Billy Lacasse and Matt Boyle tallied for the hosts.
Halifax trails Lewiston by 11 points in the race for the final playoff spot. The Mooseheads, with 18 games left in their season, continue their three-game road swing Friday against the Quebec Remparts and Saturday against the Shawinigan Cataractes. |
