At least the Halifax Mooseheads aren’t leaving Rimouski empty-handed.

Jerome Gauthier-Leduc scored 26 seconds into overtime to give the Oceanic a 4-3 victory at the Rimouski Colisee on Sunday, but the Mooseheads still get a point for the loss in extra time.

"We had a little bit of a slow start but we got a lot better in the second and the third," said Mooseheads head coach Dominique Ducharme. "We showed a lot of character coming back twice. We had our chances at the end to win it. We had some power plays and some great scoring chances so if there’s one thing we can learn from this is that we could play more with that killer instinct in those moments.

"But overall, this weekend we showed we’re back to where we want to be and things went much better in the last few games."

Robbie DeFulviis, Francis Beauvillier and Pier-Luc Pelletier scored in regulation time for the Oceanic, who led 2-0 after the first period and 3-2 after two periods. Marty Frk had two goals and an assist for Halifax and linemates Matthew Boudreau (goal, assist) and Alexandre Grenier (two assists) had two-point nights.

"Marty’s timing and his game shape and everything is much better," Ducharme said. "You’re seeing that he’s

getting more and more scoring chances every game. He’s got the tools to score goals for us so it’s nice to see him going this way."

The teams started the day tied for seventh place overall but the loss drops the Mooseheads (27-16-2-3) to eighth, while the Oceanic (30-21-0-0) are one point behind the Chicoutimi Sagueneens for sixth.

"It’s close in that part of the standings but we’re the team that has played the (fewest) games in the league so we’re not in a bad position," Ducharme said. "And the first thing we’re focusing on is how we’re playing. If we can get three points out of four every weekend like we did this weekend, we’ll be in good position for the playoffs.

"It’s one step at a time and it’s really getting better for us right now. We really improved since last week. We’re a lot more composed and we’re managing the game much better."

Zachary Fucale turned aside 27 shots for Halifax and Jacob Gervais-Chouinard made 29 saves for Rimouski.
