Nathan MacKinnon made his first goal of the year count tonight in Sydney.
The sophmore superstar scored a powerplay goal in overtime to give the Moose their first victory of the season in their opener at Centre 200. MacKinnon scored on a one-timer set up by Konrad Abeltshauser after he drew a penalty during 3 on 3 overtime action. Jonathan Drouin, who was arguably the best player all night, added a goal and an assist along with 7 shots to help secure the win. Austyn Hardie with his first QMJHL goal, and Andrew Ryan also scored for the Moose. Zach Fucale made 15 saves in goal picking up the win. The Herd outshot the Eagles 45-18.
The Mooseheads will now travel to PEI to take on the 1-0 PEI Rocket on Sunday afternoon at 3pm. The Rocket shocked the Moncton Wildcats with a 6-2 victory tonight in Charlottetown in their home opener. Follow the game live on News 95.7, online with Telus, or via our twitter @HFXMooseheads
