Battle of Nova Scotia starts with Shootout Classic

It took 65 minutes and 24 shooters but the Screaming Eagles have a leg up on the Moose in the Battle of Nova Scotia this year. In an entertaining game in front of 4,300 plus at Centre 200, Cape Breton took a 5-4 shootout win on the strength of a Roman Hrabarenka shootout winner.
Cape Breton dominated most of the first half of the game, outshooting the Moose by a large margin and holding a 2 goal lead most of the night. But a spirited fight between 6'0" 198lbs Trey Lewis and 6'5" 238lbs Blake Millman seemed to wake the Mooseheads bench up. An Alex Cote goal near the end of the 2nd period would pull the Moose within 1 heading to the room after 40 minutes though. Jonathan Brunelle would put the Eagles up 4-2 early in the 3rd period in what looked like it would be the final nail in the coffin for the Mooseheads. However, Luca Ciampini quickly responded following Brunelle's goal and Darcy Ashley tied it at 4 with the 4 minutes to play sending the game to overtime. Both teams would have their chances in overtime but neither could get it by their opposing goalies. That proved to foreshadow what was about to happen in the shootout.
